DAVID
GUITAR TEACHER
David J Powderly is a guitar teacher of over 25 years experience. He has taught in Australia, New Zealand, the UK and his native Ireland. David is a multi-instrumentalist who learned to play the guitar at the age of ten years old and has been performing from his early years. He joined his first band at the age of fifteen, recorded his own music at the age of seventeen and was a gigging musician at eighteen.
Since then David has performed internationally, but it’s in teaching where his real passion lies. He currently holds an Associate Diploma in Guitar Teaching from the London College of Music, a Licentiate in Music Teaching from the RSL, is a member of the Registry of Guitar Tutors, and is a music examiner for both the Registry of Guitar Tutors and London College of Music. He is also a qualified Recording Engineer (London City and Guilds) and Acoustic Engineer (The Institute of Acoustic, U.K.) and has produced rock acts in Ireland as well as developed and tested acoustic soundproofing installations.
He plays and teaches most guitar styles to professional level and has performed solo acoustic, classical, blues, rock, jazz and metal live. His roster of ex students include gigging session musicians, professional guitar and music teachers, and international performers across Europe. His performance credentials include numerous tribute acts (ABBA, Kings Of Leon, Nirvana Unplugged, Metallica to name but a few) and original material, both solo and as a session guitarist.
David moved to Australia in December 2017 to make it his permanent home, and has settled in the Illawarra where he hopes to augment his wide ranging teaching skills by studying psychology in his spare time.
